Our wonderful Wednesday
Well, today was a great day! We went to school and when we were leaving Leyna invited a teenager that has been taking classes with us to come to the animal shelter with us. He is 17 from Boston. We invited him to go to the orphanage the first day that we met him, but he wasn't quite sure what to think, and turned us down. We met him on Monday. Tuesday we weren't in class because we were delivering food to the countryside, so today when we asked him, I think he thought, "Hmmm...what could be next?" He might think we are crazy. He asked us if we were trying to save people. We sort of said, "well, yeah..." I'm not sure what he thinks of us, but we are loving on him. He seems to be happy to hang out with us but tentative in some ways. His name is Alex. We just want to be a good example and hope for an opportunity to share our faith with him. He is in my class, so I may get that chance. I have been talking to him for a few days and asking him lots of questions about his life, so I feel like God is softening his heart. I did not get the impression that he was open to spiritual things when I first met him. At the animal shelter we introduced him to one of our other friends that volunteers there also...Lou. She walked home with us and then came by to see the house we are renting. We had a conversation also about faith, life, politics...it was all very interesting. I do not know for sure what her "faith" consists of, but she knows that we are Christians. She is a wonderful lady, and her husband Tom is such a blessing to the orphanages here and to us! After Lou and Alex left our house, we baked ghiradelli chocolate chip cookies for las ninas...in altitude...hello!?! They came out great! Wow! God is with us. Then we headed up to the orphanage with cookies, popcorn, and candy. We brought them The Sound of Music and we all sat and watched about 2 hours of it together. They have learned the songs to the movie in Spanish, so we sang in English, they did in Spanish and in English, so it worked out so well! It was amazing. All of us had girls on our laps, on top of us, kissing us and hugging us all the time. I even got puked on! But it was all fun...even cleaning up the puke...and all a blessing from the Lord. We are privileged to be able to spend time with them. Tomorrow we meet the older girls at the school and help them with their English. They really look forward to the English lessons, and time away where they can be a little seperate and feel special...I think. My girls really love helping at the school too, especially the older girls who are so eager to learn. We came home and made pancakes for dinner and we are tired after our long day. Please pray that we all get rest and stay healthy. The altitude is sort of bothering me, I'm borderline tired most of the time. Everyone gets tired, but we try to take naps and stay rested. Thanks for all of the support you've given us via email and facebook...it's been awesome. Comment on the blog if you get a chance. We'd love to hear from you. We only have 8 more days here and we are already getting sad that we have to leave.

How cool God is. He takes you to Mexico to witness to a guy from Boston. Not what we would plan, but what God would do. It sounds like you are being used by the Lord. I will pray for your strength. I know about that tired feeling. I have had that with my illness. Continue to be good to your body taking naps, etc.
My whole family went to North Carolina for my nephew's wedding. He is a doctor marrying a doctor, and many of the attendants and friends were doctors. If ever there was a good time to be sick it was then. My nephew married a Chinese woman. They did a tea ceremony at the reception honoring each other's parents. It was nice. I got my whole family on the dance floor and laughed enough to add 10 years to my life. My youngest son did an impression of Mick Jagger and Michel Jackson and he actually was pretty good.
I pray God would continue to use you and that He would open a door for me to be able to go on a mission trip in the future. I miss not doing that.
Thanks again for the wonderful tribute at recital. The dance was beautiful and the sacrifice of time and energy meant so much.
Love.
Miss Teresa
I just love your summers. Leyna you are such a terrific child of God. Keep up the good work changing the world one person at a time...AND are you also all the way in Mexico petting dogs... oh I mean using animals as a catalyst for teaching??? I saw that you are visiting an animal shelter YEAH! you know that's close to my heart as a connection to helping people. I know you will make a difference. You have a great time and my prayers will be with you and your group to spread God's love:)
You are amazing!!!
