Our last Friday

Well folks, yesterday was an amazing, but exhausting day. We were very busy. After school we ran to the animal shelter. We are trying to adopt one of the cats for a friend, and we needed to get a good picture of her. So we ran over there, a 2 mile round trip, and then came back to pick up the rest of the girls so that we could go visit Sollano, another orphanage in town that houses older girls. We have heard that one of the madres there is not very nice, which makes Tom mad, so we needed to go with him so that we could get in. Our girls know some of those girls from English lessons at the school, and also from time they spent at Santa Julia last year. Some of them are really speaking a lot of English. There was a group from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and they were doing some songs and games and such with the girls, so I got to speak to a lot of them. (Pam) But our girls were with Tom and of course, all the girls love Tomas! So they had some time to visit with some of the older girls, which was really nice. After we left there we grabbed something to drink and then headed to the buses so that we could get to Santa Julia and play. It was around 4:45pm when we got there...so you see how long everything takes in San Miguel! We had an awesome time at Santa Julia. We sang songs and taught them some sign language to "Jesus loves me." Hannah played the keyboard music. I think some of the older girls already knew it. Then we did the hokey pokey and "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes." Trying to teach them songs in English that are fun is very important. They sort of knew some of those...but not sure they did it faster, and faster, and faster, like we did! It was funny! Then, we played "Sally Walker." It was a total blast. They had never played it, or anything like it before. So, it got them laughing, dancing, running, and wild! Oh my gosh! They continued when they were done having a great time. Leyna showed some of the girls "the pretzel," which is a dance move, I guess, and all the girls were doing it! I took some video of them and they were so excited to see themselves dancing! We were absolutely exhausted by the time we left, but it was an amazing day. They all want to finish watching The Sound of Music before we leave, but we don't really just want to sit in front of the TV when we have so little time! We will tutor them on Tuesday at school, and then we spend the afternoon there on Wednesday. We are working on our project for Forgotten Children International today, but other than that, WE HAVE TO REST. We are all beyond tired. I will try to attach some pics of yesterday to this blog. It is really going to be hard to say goodbye to the girls next week. Love you all, thanks for the comments. Leyna and Pam
